So how fragile is Web V2.0.1.7 ? Well after yesterday’s event it seems applications are over-dependent on services they use and that too without any backup.

If you are wondering what happened yesterday ? Amazon Web Services (AWS)’s few services went down, S3 primarily

  • If you are now thinking why do you care ?

If you use any of these yesterday they either were down or facing issues while AWS was locked out of it’s own console

While the root cause hasn’t been revealed nor expected anytime soon but the moral of the story being : It’s too dangerous if you are crucially dependent on some service and have no backup, Make one.

Yesterday was enough to prove AWS’s services is oxygen equivalent for most of the apps and they don’t have oxygen cylinder as backup

Don’t keep all your eggs in one basket

Well it’s also an alarming news for IOTs

Other IoT devices were also impacted and caused some rather surreal scenarios for their owners. We’re told that cloud-connected lightbulbs, thermostats, and similar gear, stopped working properly as their backends fell over. — The Register

Endnote : S3 servers were out for few hours and things went still, But enough to make every DevOps department in companies that web is fragile because everything is accumulated in one box as of now
